Chi Reflexology – Becoming a Practitioner

By Izabel Carter

What is Chi Reflexology?

In short Chi Reflexology = “Energy” Reflexology.

It is a non invasive therapy performed via the feet that combines reflexology, based on the Anatomical Reflection Theory, with Chinese philosophy including TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and acupressure. It works with the body to bring about balance on all levels and promote a change naturally.

Who are Moss Arnold and Sharon Windle/Chi Medics?

I first came across Moss and Sharon on a podcast back in May 2019 when they were interviewed by Martin Finke and Olivia Hart of Professional Reflexology. Fifty minutes later, and I wanted to know so much more and to meet Moss and Sharon. Moss and Sharon run Chi Medics, which is the culmination of over 35 years of clinical experience, research, and knowledge, that continues to grow. Between them, Moss and Sharon have 50 years of experience on which to draw.

Just before the first COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020, I had booked to attend one of their two-day courses in Devon, but things conspired against me such that I missed the opportunity. Instead, during lockdown, I undertook one of their Distance Education modules, and attended a one-day Zoom course on their Release Points ™. When I resumed reflexology after the third lockdown, I incorporated these Chi Medics techniques into my treatments together with some changes to holds and how I open and close, and I have not looked back since.

And then…

In autumn 2020, Moss and Sharon announced a Practitioner Training course starting in October 2020. Oh, I was so torn. I had only reopened in the July with the pandemic continuing to cast a shadow. The course was as long and as detailed (lots of case studies!) as my original reflexology diploma course. But then, several phrases sprung to mind – ‘No Guts, No Glory’; ‘Faint heart never won…’.

So… I signed up…

I have learnt so much from Moss and Sharon, and my fellow course mates. Moss and Sharon encouraged me to leave some of what I had already learnt at the door; proceed with an open mind; challenge, and keep asking “Why?”. I am very good at the last bit – although in asking the question, I often find the answer myself. And there has been so much fun and laughter. Unbeatable.

Where am I now?

We are not quite there yet – but so very close. We have only one more teaching day to go – and then we have written and practical exams, plus the submission of our portfolios (case studies and other assessments that we have completed during the course).

For me, the course has had mostly ups, but there was a point when I thought I might pause. I am so glad I stuck with it. Back to my ‘No Guts, No Glory’ and ‘Faint heart never won…’. Much as I am nervous about the exams, it has been worth it. I love what I am learning, and I feel like I have made the best friends in the process.

When I started my reflexology journey, I believed wholeheartedly that it works; and that belief has never wavered. Through each course I have attended in the last 10 years plus, I have added to my reflexology toolbox, and I continue to use the tools appropriate for the client. The Chi Medics techniques are like top-of-the-range power tools – and are here to stay.

What does this mean for you?

The treatment is still all about you and what you need.
